Elvis Has Entered the Building

After searching around the Triangle for a couple of months I couldn't find the newly released Elvis PEZ set. Sure, I could have just ordered it off the internet but that's too easy.

I finally found it at an overpriced candy shop at Pier 39 at Fisherman's Wharf while in San Francisco. Sure I paid more, but by the time I added in shipping fees it wouldn't have been much cheaper to order it.

All three Elvis's have already joined the rest of the PEZ collection at the office.

Elvis...my hero.

The PEZ Museum

I finally made it.

My pilgrimage to the PEZ Museum in Burlingame, California.

This place claims to have one of every PEZ dispenser ever made! Now, I've got over 400 dispensers (I think), but I stay away from the rare ones costing hundreds or thousands of dollars. He's got them all, including the tallest PEZ dispenser which he commissioned an artist to create.

Check out the pictures (with captions).

If only the candy that came out of the world's tallest dispenser was proportional. Imagine a candy brick popping out instead of a 3/8 inch piece. That would truly make any kid's day.

I'm Packing PEZ

Time to Pack the PEZPEZ in a Box
Hi, my name is Chris.
I have a problem.
I'm a PEZ-a-holic.

You might be aware of my PEZ collection. It's grown over the years and the office is the perfect place to display it. Lots of people get to see it and it adds color and fun to an otherwise boring office.

Packed PEZBut now it's time to move to another office. It's in the same building, but unfortunately I can't take my walls with me. So it was time to pack. Time to pack a lot of PEZ.

I'm packing PEZ right now too as we're preparing to buy a new house. What a pain! 1000+ pez
Pics here and here.

PezCam Relocated

Yes, the PezCam has moved. It's now located outside of my PEZ Office in preparation for a Halloween event on Monday from 3-5pm EDT. Tune in then to see snapshots of brave kids coming by to get some candy.

I have no idea what the pics will look like since we'll only have dim lighting and will be adding fog if everything works out. Though you won't hear it over the web, we're also adding spooky music from Halloween, Psycho, The Exorcist, Amityville Horror, Friday the 13th and such. And the web cam now greets you with a motion-activated "W-E-L-C-O-M-E-!".

Pez MP3 Players

Later this year, store shelves will be filled with some of the most expensive PEZ dispensers ever, as Pez MP3 players become reality. It does sound kinda neat that you'll be able to switch the character head with one from any PEZ candy dispenser you have.

New Star Wars Pez

A few more Pez dispensers I'll have to add to my collection are coming in April. Pez is releasing more Star Wars dispensers to coincide with the release of Episode III. They'll add the Death Star, a new Chewbacca, Emperor Palpatine, and General Grievous.

There will also be a limited edition Emperor Palpatine with glow-in-the-dark face. You know you need that.

Inside The Pez Office

You've no doubt seen the PezCam in the right sidebar. It's your view into my world -- though I'm rarely seen on there since I sit behind the desk and typically out of camera sight.

But now you can get a look at why it's called the PezCam and the PezOffice. See for yourself. I've been collecting for over eight years now and the office walls are the best place to display them.

Co-workers often bring their children by to stare at the colorful walls laden with candy they can't have. And if I ever run out of questions while giving an interview, there's always the topic of Pez.

Pez For Sale

If my Pez collection would command over $30,000 at auction, it would be on the block tomorrow. But it won't, so I still keep it in my office. I wonder who's collection this was.

PezCam Sabotage!

And then the PezCam went black.

The PezCam has been sabotaged! It's blocked!

And by a Pez dispenser no less.

Image analysis of the first degraded image shows an upload timestamp of Wednesday, December 8th at 19:04 UTC which converts to 2:04pm Eastern. The previous unobstructed picture was taken at 1:54pm. So the perpertrator took advantage of that 10 minute timespan to take things into their own hands and completely black out one corner of the Internet, blinding my readership without regard to their wishes!

The audacity!

My 15 Minutes

I haven't had the time to put up much PEZ-related content here yet. I do still collect. I do still display them on the walls of my office. But I'm not following the mailing list or PEZHead community any longer due to lack of time.

Last night, I stumbled across this wonderful page about PEZheads History. Read about how PEZHeads came together nine years ago when the World Wide Web was still in its infancy and it was difficult to find anything PEZ-related on the web except for a scan of the instructions on how to load a dispenser.

Special thanks to Louis Apoldo for putting pen to paper (so to speak) and capturing my 15 minutes of fame!

Another special thanks to Amy Forsyth and later Todd & Misty McAllister for taking on the noble task of updating the PEZ FAQ I started back in August of 1995!

Perhaps in the next couple of weeks I'll find time to put up some PEZ content here. I know you're all on the edge of your seats!

Pez Office Cam

I've added the Pez Office Cam in the sidebar to the right. This will probably need some tweaking over the next several days, but perhaps it will be pseudo-interesting.

Click on the image to get a thumbnail of the last several visitors to my office. Each thumbnail also links to a larger image. Updates are motion-triggered and the number of new images is limited (I've only got a tiny little bit of web space here).
