First Geocache Hide!

The reviews are in. Critics say:
"Cleverly done!"
"...very well executed..."
"...very clever hide"
"Lots of fun."
"Clever container..."
"...splendid..."
Of course, they're all talking about the
DG History Micro, our first
geocache hide. Follow the link for cache details and log entries.
After constructing the container, averaging several GPS readings, and verifying with Google Earth, we snuck over one Saturday evening and planted the cache. The location's shown in the satellite photo above. This one's near a bus stop in RTP that's pretty deserted on the weekends. It's actually right across the street from where I work.
After getting the physical cache in place, we wrote up the description and submitted it for review. A couple of days later the cache was published for others to find. The cache was published at 9:08pm. At 9:30pm, the first person found it!
Dave even drove out to the site that night to see people come look for it. He got there just as the first geocacher was leaving. It's been found eleven times so far and it seems like everyone has been happy. It's been neat putting a cache out their for others to find, but also rewarding to make it a memorable one.

Graduation Celebration
An evening at Kanki to celebrate Tim's graduation. The tableside flames scared Delaney and Tori at first, but they warmed up to the cook's antics and Tori ate tons of shrimp.

Poor Tarheels

Carlos attended NCSU's graduation ceremonies this past weekend and passed on this gem from one of the speakers (paraphrased):
"What's the difference between a large Domino's pizza and a Liberal Arts graduate from UNC?"
"The Domino's pizza can feed a family of four!"

Inside the Cage
I don't know why, and please don't ask me, but we have a cage here at work.
Now, if you don't know me, I'm a software engineer at a research and development facility. So finding that we have a cage upstairs is a little strange.
What Dave is doing in there is another strange story.

A Statement Against Cubicles
Several people here at work have been moved around lately and everyone is quick to express they don't want to be forced to move from an office to a cube.
This person has a workspace setup in an open area, but chose to post a nice sign instructing visitors what to do.
I recall interviewing at a business that did use cubes and one employee had a line of tape on the floor and would completely ignore you until you (for lack of a real wall or door) "knocked" on the frame of his cube.

My First FTF!
Here I am blogging about a pile of sticks in the woods again. If this is news to you, check out
How to Go Geocaching.
This time it's special, though. Well, to me, at least.
At about 10:45pm on Tuesday night as I was taking out the trash, I got email notification on my Treo that a new geocache had just been published.
Wilbur's #2 Cache. It was about a mile and a half from my house.
I mentioned it to Melissa as I went back inside, but I was tired and wasn't going to go after it. She insisted I go, so I quickly looked on the computer and found it was south. I got in the car and started that way, knowing the general area where it was. I was almost there by the time my GPS locked on and guided me to park on the side of the road about a hundred feet away.
By now, I was nervous. I'd never been the first to find (FTF) a cache. That's sort of a badge of honor and people race to get there and find it first. I got my Treo, GPS, and flashlight and headed toward the cache.
Just as I'm entering the woods, I see headlights. Is it another cacher? The police? Neither, as they continue past me.
This one wasn't difficult at all to find, though it was quite a different experience hunting with a flashlight and there was certainly other animals in those woods.
I found it and opened it. I was first at 11:05pm!
As I was getting into my car, I saw more headlights approaching. This time they pulled up right behind me and parked. It was another cacher and he was disappointed to see that I'd already taken the FTF honors.
Turns out that yet another cacher showed up that night after we left. You gotta be quick out of the gate to be FTF. Anytime, day or night, geocachers are out hunting.
