Pointless Protection

They must have a serious theft problem here in the pediatric unit at the hospital. You can go to the playroom down the hall and bring toys, books, and videos back to the room. But the cassette player is locked to the wall.

Seriously, what are you protecting here? Who wants a cassette player anyway? Especially one that big? And didn't the steel cable and padlock cost more than the cassette player they are protecting?

Clearly they thought I would visit.

iPods are Everywhere

Victoria is almost 3 years old and she's already enjoying the iPod. This one's her cousin Callie's, but she may have trouble getting it back.

You may want to check out this web site http://www.storynory.com/ for some free kids stories for her ipod ;-)

Your Own Free Wiki and AJAX Start Page

Create your own free wiki at pbwiki. A wiki is a site that you can edit right in your browser. Changes are immediately visible. You can share access to this and make collaboration easy. Something as simple as keeping a family shopping list - you no longer have to search for the piece of paper your spouse already wrote things on and you can edit it from any computer. Everyone can easily contribute to the same list and everyone knows where it is. Organize it however you like and keep all your notes there, todo lists, movies you'd like to set, etc. Lots of possibilities.

It would be even better if they had a nice GUI editor, something like FCKeditor. But it's pretty slick - and FREE.

Also checkout Protopage where you can create your own customized start page. It's also free. This one uses AJAX so you can grab frames and move them around however you like. You can have it display news, weather, bookmarks, and any RSS feed you wish. It also has this cool, simple to use "sticky note" feature. Basically you can write whatever you want and move it around on screen like you would do with a PostIt note on your desk.

Again, think of the possibilities of informal collaboration - you could put family shopping lists, reminders, gift lists, todo lists, and even fun uplifting notes there. Sort of an online family bulletin board. All FREE.

I'm sensing a running theme here..."Free".

You need to stay away from that Dave guy.

Build-a-Bear

There's no bear like a Build-a-Bear, unless it's not a bear at all, but rather a Build-a-Bear dog.

How Not To Make a Company Logo

A couple of weeks ago, we had to take Delaney to the ER. She couldn't stop coughing and had trouble catching her breath. She had to have a breathing treatment and we ended up having to get a nebulizer.

This is the picture on the side of the box. You already have a kid that needs to put a mask on their face and turn on this loud compressor with a hose coming out of it. Now you show them a picture of this guy?

If you ever go into graphic design and create anything remotely close to this, look for another career. Please.
