What's on my Treo 650 - Part 2
Previously, I covered my Treo 650
accessories and
some of the software I have loaded. Here's the rest of it.
Doc(uments) Tab
- BibleReader -Excellent and free Bible reader. Download multiple translations and commentaries. Many translations are free. Full text searching, red-letter editions, personal notes, bookmarks. Free
- CardTXT - Powerful text editor, simple to use, writes to SD card, supports files up to 4MB. I'm contemplating using this instead of MemoPad, as I can create my own directory structure on the card and also edit the same files on my desktop in my favorite text editor. Also supports importing and exporting from/to MemoPad. Free
- CCrypt - Encrypted notepad. I haven't really used this much. But as soon as SD-6 gets back in business, I'm ready. Free
- Documents To Go - A portable Microsoft Office. Supports reading and writing native Word and Excel files. Supports PowerPoint (and Word and Excel) formats via hotsync translation. The noticable thing missing is support for native PDF (Adobe supports PDF on the Palm only by hotsync translation), but that's coming. Limited version included with Treo, or $49.99 for premium edition.
- eReader -Electronic book reader. Free
- HandyShopper -Excellent shopping program. I used to use this extensively for grocery lists, but now I do that online. But you can still use HandyShopper for any lists or simple database application. I have lists of my PEZ collection, travel packing lists, to-do lists, etc. People have used this popular app for just about anything. Desktop apps and conduits are also available. Free
- HappyDays -Keeps track of birthdays and anniversaries, gathering info from your Contact list. Free
- MetrO -Shows shortest route between two subway stations. But who am I kidding? We don't have a subway in The Triangle, and I really don't travel. Oh well, it's Free
- Plucker - Offline HTML and ebook reader. Lots of great information available for free in this format. Being the geek that I am, I carry MySQL, Perl, PHP, and CVS reference manuals. Along with the 2005 CIA Fact Book and a copy of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. All on the external SD card, of course. Free (as are the texts mentioned)
- Tide Tool -Surf's up! But I don't surf. Free
Calc(ulators) Tab
- Converter -Convert over 200 units back and forth as desired. How many millibars in a hectopascal? What's the European equivalent of a US size 8 men's show? Free
- Count Days - Count the number of days between two dates. Hmmm, maybe DayCount or SnapDates are better, but I don't use this much. All Free
- SnapCalc5 -Pop-up calculator, so you don't have to leave the app you're in when you need to do some quick math. Supports copy and paste for easy insertion in text fields. Free
- Sun Compass - Well, you never know when you'll need to go North. Free
Game(s) Tab
* I haven't really installed the games I used to play on the Zire 71 and I haven't tried out many new ones yet, so I'll leave most of these for another blog post. I will mention the only three on there that I occassionally play.
- Bombel - Not much of a game, really, but good for a laugh, and the kids love it. Pop air bubbles (you know, those sheets of bubbles used for packing fragile stuff in boxes). With sound effects and vibrations. Free
- Sudoku - Addictive logic-based puzzle game where you arrange numbers in a grid such that each row, column, and grid contains each number once. Shareware $9.95
- Yahdice -Yahtzee dice game for the Palm. Free
I'll leave system utilities and mobile bookmarks for Part 3 of this series.
