Writeboard, a "Web 2.0" App

37signals has yet another great product in their recently announced Writeboard. They already provide Basecamp, Backpack, and Ta-da List, which are also worth clicking thru to if you're unfamiliar with them.

Writeboard allows you to collaborate with others online to write, edit, and review some text. Any text. It's one of those "Web 2.0" apps that is really changing everything. Why should your data be tied to your computer? Why should your applications be tied to your computer?

How many of you have already abandoned local email clients in favor of Gmail or some other web-based email service? If you haven't, you should.

How many people still load maps from CDs onto your local computer? If you do, please stop.

Web 2.0 is here.

Writeboard is free. You can share your document with whoever you wish. They make changes, you make changes, you use the comments section to discuss proposed changes. It has version control built in. You can go back to any saved version and compare any versions you like. There's even support for text formatting, lists, and links.

Instead of emailing that document back and forth, collaborate via the web. Or use it just for yourself. You could store reference information there, retain historical versions, and access it from any computer on the internet. Lots of applications.
