Google Replies!

When Google went down yesterday, I sent them an email. I imagine they must have received thousands of emails, but true to their word, they replied. Now, I realize this is not a personal reply, but I applaud them for tracking my email and replying at all. Especially when the story is now or was on the front page of most news sites.

Here's the email:

Thank you for writing to us about your difficulty accessing Google. Recently, many parts of the internet were slowed by the MyDoom virus, which flooded major search engines with automated searches. Fortunately, we were able to quickly identify those queries and block them, so that at no point was Google significantly impaired. A small number of users and networks that were infected with MyDoom may have been blocked temporarily, but service for all of our users has been completely restored.

If you suspect your computer may have been infected with MyDoom, we recommend you do a Google search for 'MyDoom' to find out how you can remove it, and perhaps search for 'antivirus software' to learn how you can protect yourself from such viruses in the future.
